Rogue Opera
2006 marks the 29th anniversary of Rogue Opera, committed to presenting high quality opera to regional audiences, training young performers, and directing its resources towards the education and enrichment of our youth and community. With over 680 school and main stage performances, Rogue Opera has become an integral part of Southern Oregon’s cultural community. Since 1986, over 185,000 students have attended Rogue Opera’s “Opera in the Schools” productions. Other educational outreach programs include “Tickets for Youth Program” and three collaborations with Southern Oregon University: “Behind the Scenes Youth Mentoring Program,” “Opera Workshop with Voices from the Valley Concerts” and “The Complete Singer Training Series.” In June 2005, Rogue Opera was granted Professional Company Member Status in OPERA America! Rogue Valley Chorale
The Rogue Valley Chorale continues its tradition of bringing fine music to Southern Oregon. The Chorale has performed at Carnegie Hall as a featured choir and in Europe in many of the beautiful and historic churches. Locally the Chorale has been featured at Britt Festivals.
Rogue Valley Symphony
Currently beginning its 37th season, the Rogue Valley Symphony Orchestra performs for audiences throughout southern Oregon and northern California. The 70-piece group, conducted by Arthur Shaw, presents five concert series in Ashland, Grants Pass and Medford for a total of thirteen subscription concerts throughout the season. In addition, the orchestra performs four holiday Candlelight Concerts in Rogue Valley area churches in December.
Ballet Rogue
Under the artistic direction of choreographer and co-founder Diane Gaumond Hyrst, Ballet Rogue (formerly the State Ballet of Oregon) has been bringing professional ballet performances to Southern Oregon since 1980. The company is best known for its series Ballet in the Park, presented every summer in Ashland’s Lithia Park.
Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon
The three ensembles of the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon perform classical symphonic music with skill, sensitivity, enthusiasm and fresh insight. Founded in 1988, the mission of the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon is to provide exceptional performance experiences under the leadership of professional conductors and music coaches and to foster a lifelong appreciation of the arts. The YSSO includes more than 180 musicians in three ensembles: Youth Strings, Youth Orchestra and Youth Symphony. Audiences will be impressed by the technical ability and musicianship of these extraordinary young musicians.
Winners of the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon’s Annual Concerto Competition will be featured soloists with the Youth Symphony during the concert season. Come to a YSSO concert and be prepared to be dazzled!
Rogue Valley Youth Choruses
The Rogue Valley Youth Choruses is a community chorus organization that includes more than 130 singers from 25 schools and numerous home schools in the Valley. Talented singers in grades 4 through 12 audition yearly for one of the three choruses: Discovery Chorus, Children’s Chorus, or the Youth Ensemble. Appearances have included state and regional conventions, chorus festivals, local school tours, the SOU Convocation series, and concerts at the Rogue Valley Manor and the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater. RVYC choristers have appeared on stage with Maria Del Rey, M-Pact, Red Grammer, the Rogue Valley Symphony, and Rogue Valley Chorale. Come and enjoy innovative programming and quality choral music performed by these premiere choruses!
